Thank you for supporting our Children's Learning Centers this National Nonprofit Day!

Oakland Family Services is pleased to share that our 2020 National Nonprofit Day campaign raised a total of $845, surpassing our $500 goal!

National Nonprofit Day is celebrated annually on Aug. 17. This year, Oakland Family Services dedicated our online fundraising campaign to the agency’s Children’s Learning Centers in Pontiac and Walled Lake, which are under financial stress due to the coronavirus pandemic.

While our Children’s Learning Centers are now enrolling for preschool and childcare in the fall, they are still reeling from the financial impact of a three-month closure following Michigan’s stay-at-home order in March, along with the extremely down-sized operation of our summer camps since July.

Our plans for fall include a variety of measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, including rigorous cleaning routines, daily health screenings, physical distancing, changes to dining services and more. We intend to offer in-person, hybrid and virtual learning programs to allow for smaller in-person groups.

Funds raised from Oakland Family Services’ National Nonprofit Day campaign will help the Children’s Learning Centers offset the expenses of extra cleaning supplies, personal protective equipment and in-class and at-home learning materials to keep students and staff safe. These materials include individual art bins to keep students from sharing supplies at school and take-home learning materials with corresponding lesson plans and activities that will support hybrid and virtual learning.

“The funds raised will be extremely helpful for purchasing the needed and necessary learning-from-home materials that the children we serve will use to extend their learning and preparation for kindergarten while at home,” said Kris Kasperski, director of Early Childhood Service. “The generous contributions to the CLCs will purchase enough learning-from-home materials kits for 44 children.”
