Specialized Services for Youth holiday party gives families quality time together
The ”store” at the Specialized Services for Youth holiday party was a big hit! Children enjoyed picking out gifts to give to their parent, grandparent or other family members during the Dec. 12 event.
The celebration also featured fun activities and plenty of food. Children tested their creativity while decorating gingerbread houses, danced with friends and family, and enjoyed arts and crafts.
“The holiday party is a chance for the children to be with other children and families in a natural setting and enjoy being treated special,” said Jeanne Miller, director of Specialized Services for Youth. “Many of the families we serve aren’t able to offer this to their children, and it’s also a time for everyone to have some fun together!”
About 125 people and 30 staff members attended the holiday event.
Funded by the Oakland Community Health Network, the Specialized Services for Youth program provides counseling for youth ages 6-17 with severe emotional disturbance and their families.
