Oakland Family Services in the news: Channel 7 representatives present check to United Way, read to children in our CLC

WXYZ Channel 7 reporter Carolyn Clifford spent some time reading books provided by United Way for Southeastern Michigan to preschoolers in our Children’s Learning Center on National Reading Day Wednesday, Jan. 23.

While on site WXYZ representatives, including Clifford and General Manager Mike Murri, also held a check presentation that celebrated the donation of more than $18,700 to United Way for Southeastern Michigan to buy books. The money was raised by WXYZ employees and matched by the Scripps Howard Foundation. United Way distributed the purchased books to Oakland Family Services and five other Early Learning Communities at its partner agencies.

Oakland Family Services will use the books in classrooms, our Early Learning Communities Teacher and Family Lending Libraries, and book swaps. Books also may be given to students.

The event was featured on Channel 7’s evening and night newscasts.

Check out the story on Channel 7’s website.
