Maternal Infant Health Program Hosts Community Baby Shower
On September 29th, 2023, new and expectant mothers were invited to attend Oakland Family Services’ Maternal Infant Health Program Community Baby Shower, a celebration of parenthood that included complimentary gifts and raffles for prizes. The outdoor event in Pontiac, Michigan was free to attend.
Donations of various baby gifts such as diapers, bottles, and clothes were collected for the mothers in advance. Raffle prizes included a crib mattress, a car seat, a bouncer, a play mat, and more. COVID-19 test kits were also provided to the moms in attendance.
The Maternal Infant Health Program (MIHP) nurtures health and wellness throughout pregnancy and infancy by partnering families with caring, trusted, and knowledgeable home visitors who serve their specific goals and needs. MIHP is free for Medicaid-eligible pregnant women, infants up to age, one and their families.
MIHP providers help pregnant women and families with newborns understand how to stay healthy. Everyone enrolled will have a care plan developed just for them. A team of nurses, social workers, nutrition professionals, lactation consultants, and infant mental health specialists will work with the family and their doctor to provide support.
Visits are tailored to the family’s needs and may include topics such as:
Pregnancy, labor and delivery
Breastfeeding
Nutrition
Positive parenting
Infant health and development
Housing
Transportation
Immunizations
Mental health
Community resources
