Guy Gordon receives 2024 Chairman's Award

In 2013, our Board of Directors started an annual tradition of recognizing outstanding volunteers with the Chairman’s Award. Recipients of this award have given extraordinary amounts of their time, talents, and passion to drive the mission of Oakland Family Services.

This year, OFS Chairman of the Board Brian Newman paid tribute to an exceptional advocate, friend, and voice of reason for so many: Guy Gordon.

Guy has been a devoted volunteer and board member for 36 years, and his contributions have left a lasting impact. He goes above and beyond in spreading awareness of the challenges that Oakland Family Services can assist with and the resources we provide in Oakland County.

Guy has also helped raise critical funds for our programs and community. Through hosting 26 Guy Gordon Classic for Kids Golf Outings, he raised $1.5 million in donations for Oakland Family Services. In addition, Guy serves as the talented emcee and familiar voice that brings a sense of calm to everyone at our annual Building Brighter Futures Breakfast events.

We are incredibly grateful for this unwavering support.

After accepting the Chairman’s Award at our 2024 Celebration Event, Guy shared the following statement:

“When you do the news, you're constantly bombarded with negative stories, depressing stories; stories that seem to have no solution.

Oakland Family Services was the solution for me. Because when you read these stories night after night, it wears you down. Now, I get to see those solutions through this agency in action. We can give the beacon of hope that there are solutions to these horrible things we see on the news.

So, thank you very much. The hopefulness that this agency gives makes the next story a little easier to bear when you know there's a solution.”

Guy Gordon’s career spans over 40 years as a reporter, anchor, and talk show host. He currently hosts JR Morning on WJR NewsTalk 760 AM. His work has earned him multiple Emmy Awards and numerous accolades for his exceptional reporting and community service.
