#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving, celebrated the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Considered to be the kick-off of the charitable giving season, the day brings people together in efforts to reach fundraising goals and make a difference in their community. It’s more fun to give together!

Here are five key ways you can make an impact this holiday season, even if you don’t feel you have the funds for it:

1. CREATE A FACEBOOK FUNDRAISER

Since #GivingTuesday is fueled by social media, what better way to get involved than create a Facebook fundraiser to invite your connections to Oakland Family Services. Just click here to head over to our Facebook page!

2. SHARE SOCIAL MEDIA CONTENT

If you don’t feel comfortable creating a fundraiser, you can always help Oakland Family Services just by sharing our content with your friends and family.

3. GET CREATIVE

You never know the impact that you have on your social network. Try sharing a live video of the reason you gave to Oakland Family Services and why you choose to support us. Your story could trigger the support of someone else. What is your #Givingstory?

4. DONATE

Donating the amount of a cup of coffee may seem cliché, but it truly does help. You don’t have to give hundreds to make a difference.

5. VOLUNTEER

There are so many different volunteer opportunities in your community. Whatever you may be passionate about, find it and reach out to that organization. We always have a need for volunteers at Oakland Family Services. Oakland Family Services’ goal this #GivingTuesday, is to bring awareness to the community about the effects of opioid use, depression, anxiety and trauma. As the rate of suicide and opioid use increases, we need financial support to make sure we can help everyone who needs us. When individuals struggle it can affect the entire family, so your support goes to help more than just the person in need of services. It helps his or her parents, spouse or children as well.

Just because a person may not be able to pay for the services does not mean that there isn’t a need for them. Oakland Family Services and Day One recognize that the need for services exist and people need our help, even if they don’t have insurance. Our goal this #GivingTuesday is to raise $3,000 to help toward our goal of serving people who may not have insurance or whose health plans don’t cover the full cost of the therapy sessions. There are three ways — all secure— in which you can make a donation to Oakland Family Services this #GivingTuesday and join us in building brighter futures in our community.
