Oakland Family Services is now enrolling for the fall at its Children’s Learning Centers in Walled Lake and Pontiac. The agency offers free preschool for qualifying 4-year-olds through the Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) at both locations.

The Children’s Learning Center in Walled Lake, which opened in 2015, houses 96 preschoolers with six classrooms. Children enjoy a developmentally appropriate learning environment, which includes consistent and secure daily experiences that promote independent thinking, decision-making and problem solving. The Children's Learning Center uses the nationally recognized High/Scope model of early learning.

Come to an enrollment fair to sign up your child! Enrollment fairs will be held 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, July 30 and 1-6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at the Walled Lake Children’s Learning Center, 1885 N. Pontiac Trail.

“We have various different family engagement events and opportunities throughout the year and really work to encourage parent/family engagement and interaction in the classroom and in their child's learning and education,” said Angela Liegghio, family service specialist at the Children’s Learning Center.

In Pontiac, the next enrollment fair will be held 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6 at the Children’s Learning Center, 114 Orchard Lake Road.

“Besides the Great Start Readiness Program, we offer high-quality, tuition-based programming for children 12 months through 3 to 4 years of age,” Liegghio said.

During the course of the 2017-2018 school year, the Children’s Learning Center in Pontiac served 116 children -- 86 children in the GSRP program as well as 21 children in 3-year-old classrooms and 9 in a toddler classsroom.

Oakland Family Services’ preschool program runs Monday through Thursday with affordable options available for before, after and Friday care. Priority for open spots in the GSRP program is given to children who turn 4 by Sept. 1, but available spots may be available for children who turn 4 by Dec. 1. Families must meet certain income requirements. Both locations provide breakfast, lunch and a snack.
