2019: Year in Review
As we say goodbye to 2019, Oakland Family Services is taking a moment to look back and reflect on the successes we had throughout the year. Here are just a few that we’d like to share!
In Prevention:
Our Family Preservation program helped provide safe and loving homes for 199 children in foster care, provided support and services for 117 foster homes, and opened 30 new foster home licenses. In addition, 64 children were connected with their forever families through adoption.
Oakland Family Services’ Parents as Teachers home-visiting program was awarded Blue Ribbon Affiliate status from the Parents as Teachers National Center. This recognition means that our Parents as Teachers program is one of the top-performing affiliates nationwide!
In Early Childhood Services, our Fussy Baby and Early On programs served a combined nearly 800 families. The Fussy Baby program demonstrated strengthened parenting in more than 90% of participants. Of the children completing services in Early On, 90% displayed improvements in social relationships, knowledge, knowledge application and their ability to take actions to meet their own needs.
In Education:
Our Children’s Learning Centers in Pontiac and Walled Lake served 471 children! Amongst our preschoolers, outcomes scores indicated:
an average of 55.2% improvement in language, literacy and communication,
an average of 54.4% improvement in science and technology, and
an average of 52% improvement in mathematics.
Our Early Learning Communities held 276 trainings for childcare providers, with a total attendance of 3,057, and 65 playgroups, with a total of 311 attendees.
Parents and teachers checked out 386 books, toys and resources from our Lending Libraries.
In Treatment:
Our Day One mental health and substance use counseling program provided services and support to more than 2,200 individuals throughout the year.
Our Specialized Services for Youth program served more than 686 clients.
Some other successes:
In April, we celebrated our seventh annual Building a Brighter Future Breakfast. This event was attended by more than 300 supporters and surpassed our fundraising goal.
For the sixth year in a row, Oakland Family Services was named a Detroit Free Press Top Workplace, coming in at No. 28 amongst midsized Michigan companies with 150-499 employees!
Last but not least, as the year came to a close, our biggest-ever Adopt A Family program provided gifts for the holiday season to more than 900 children from more than 350 families!
None of this work would be possible without the awesome team of volunteers, donors and community partners that we have standing by our side! Thank you for helping make 2019 a great year.
Our New Year’s resolution is to make 2020 an even better year by continuing this success and striving for even greater achievements!
