Day One stays connected to clients with telecounseling during coronavirus pandemic
During the coronavirus pandemic, it’s important to take care of your mental health. Feelings of isolation can heighten anxiety and depression or spark fear of relapse for those recovering from substance use disorders. Day One is committed to providing the services you need to get through this difficult and unprecedented time. All of our therapists are now seeing clients for mental health and substance use disorder treatment through telecounseling.
What is telecounseling?
Telecounseling is a way for you to have sessions with your therapist without having to come into the office. You can see your therapist face-to-face through live video conferencing from the comfort of your home.
What equipment do I need for telecounseling?
All you need is a computer or phone with internet access. Simply download Zoom, a video conferencing tool that will link you with your therapist. You will be given a personal meeting ID number to join the session. If you have ever used FaceTime on your iPhone or Skype on your computer, it’s the same type of technology, only more secure.
How do telecounseling sessions work?
Sessions are similar with the exception you are not seeing your therapist in person. You meet at a scheduled time online and can see, hear and interact with each other.
Is telecounseling covered by insurance?
In response to COVID-19, more insurance companies are covering the cost of virtual sessions, but it’s important to check with your individual insurance company to find out if any, all, or part of the sessions are covered.
Why should you try telecounseling?
Telecounseling allows you to get mental health or substance use counseling while following any social distancing guidelines or quarantine restrictions during the coronavirus pandemic. You can virtually meet with your therapist or begin therapy services from the privacy of your home with the same level of confidentiality. All therapists are trained in telecounseling and want to make the experience as easy as possible.
"Telecounseling is a great way to have yet another connection in what can be a confusing and stressful time,” said Amy Hostinsky, behavioral health clinician at Day One. “We understand that there are a lot of unknowns at this time and those unknowns can cause stress and concern. Let the clinicians at Day One help you through this time and allow you a safe, confidential space to talk and share your concerns."
Day One continues to accept new clients during this crisis. We will match you with one of our caring, qualified counselors and make sure you are seen for your first appointment within two business days. If you have any questions or want to schedule a telecounseling appointment, call Day One at (248) 858-7766.
