Oakland Family Services named Michigan Top Workplace for eight years running

For the eighth year in a row, Oakland Family Services is proud to have been named a Detroit Free Press Top Workplace. This achievement shows that Oakland Family Services employees feel good about the work they do and the agency’s workplace culture.

Top Workplaces rankings are determined based on employee surveys that ask questions about workplace culture, pay, benefits, leadership, and what employees like or dislike about their jobs. The survey is distributed by Energage, a Philadelphia-based employee research and culture technology firm that performs Top Workplaces surveys across the U.S.

This year saw more entrants to the Detroit Free Press Top Workplaces competition than ever before, with more than 90,000 employees from 3,100 Michigan companies participating. Oakland Family Services is ranked no. 49 among Michigan for-profit and nonprofit companies with 150-499 employees in the region.

“This past year has been challenging for all workplaces, and we are so proud of how our staff has adapted again and again to the ongoing changes that the coronavirus pandemic has thrown our way,” said Vice President of Employee Engagement and Organizational Development Julie Mison. “The Top Workplaces survey is just one of many ways we work hard to keep all of our employees engaged and connected to our workplace culture. The survey is an opportunity for employees to share not only what they love about their jobs, but also a place for staff to honestly voice ways that Oakland Family Services can improve. We also use the survey to benchmark ourselves against other nonprofits, as well as our own scores from the previous year. We want our staff to know they are recognized, supported and appreciated for all they do to build brighter futures for the people we serve.”

President and CEO Jaimie Clayton said competition was especially tough this year, given the high number of entrants and the tumultuous nature of the current job market.

“You should be proud of this award crossing over our second year managing the pandemic with onsite health and safety concerns, living our culture through a remote and hybrid work environment for many and the increasing needs of those we serve,” she told staff. “Your work matters, and this award is affirming that our workplace supports the value you bring to the job every day.”

Earlier this year, the agency was also named one of the first-ever National Top Workplaces.
